Were the Lmc Globular Clusters Formed in a Disk?
نویسنده
چکیده
The radial velocities of the 13 globular clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud have a dispersion of 28 km s relative to the HI rotation curve of the LMC, compared to a dispersion of 30 km s with regard to the mean globular cluster velocity. This shows that, contrary to a suggestion by Schommer et al. (1992), one cannot yet rule out the possibility that the LMC globular clusters formed in a pressure supported halo, rather than in rotating disk. The globular clusters in the LMC may therefore, after all, exhibit a relationship between age and kinematics that is similar to that of the clusters in M33. RR Lyrae stars in the inner LMC: Where did they form?
Context. RR Lyrae stars (RRLS) belong to population II and are generally used as a tracer of the host galaxy halo. Aims. The surface as well as vertical distribution of RRLS in the inner Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) are studied to understand whether these stars are actually formed in the halo. Methods. RRLS identified by the OGLE III survey are used to estimate their number density distribution...

متن کاملFormation and evolution of the Magellanic Clouds. I.Origin of structural, kinematical, and chemical properties of the Large Magellanic Cloud
We investigate the dynamical and chemical evolution of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) interacting with the Galaxy and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) based on a series of self-consistent chemodynamical simulations. Our numerical models are aimed at explaining the entire properties of the LMC, i.e., the observed structure and kinematics of its stellar halo and disk components as well as the p...
متن کاملOn the Origin of the Kinematical Differences Between the Stellar Halo and the Old Globular Cluster System in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We discuss structural and kinematical properties of the stellar halo and the old globular cluster system (GCS) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) based on numerical simulations of the LMC formation. We particularly discuss the observed possible GCS’s rotational kinematics (V/σ ∼ 2) that appears to be significantly different from the stellar halo’s one with a large velocity dispersion (∼ 50 km ...

The origin of metal-rich, highly flattened, and rapidly rotating disk globular cluster system in the Galaxy is one of longstanding issues in the context of the Galaxy formation. Our numerical simulations suggest a new “two-fold” scenario that the disk globular clusters are firstly formed in the high-pressure, dense central region of a gas-rich dwarf galaxy, as induced during the tidal interacti...
